What is a DO?

There are two different types of medical schools in the United States: allopathic medical schools and osteopathic medical schools.  Allopathic medical school graduates become MDs, while osteopathic medical school graduates become DOs.  Both types of medical schools are four year medical schools, with the first two years dedicated to basic sciences and the last two years spent in clinical rotations.  DOs train at the same residency programs as MDs and can become board certified in any specialty.
